The Sandwiches that Keep the Customers Talking

Sep 29, 2021 | Blog

Originating in 1991, Bellair Market introduced Charlottesville to fresh and delicious sandwiches prepared and sold out of a convenience store. Because of their extensive catering and food knowledge, store managers, Pat Pitts and Hillary Horn were able to create a unique food experience for Charlottesville locals. With fresh meats, bread, and produce, The Market sandwiches stand out so much so that they call for names in congruence with local landmarks and towns. Read on to find out where exactly the names of our top sellers originate from!

Farmington

A crowd favorite, this signature sandwich has its (grass) roots at the original Bellair Market. Bellair sits just a few miles from Farmington Country Club, a frequented spot for the golfers of Charlottesville. Hence, its name, the Farmington.

So why not name one of our most famous (and delicious) sandwiches after the infamous country club right down the road? With a combination of smoked turkey, bacon, Havarti, cole slaw (yep, you read that right), lettuce, tomato, and herb mayonnaise on fresh, French bread it’s no wonder this sandwich is a home run. Or shall we say, a hole in one?

Jefferson

We all know that Charlottesville, VA is home to the Hoos and the University of Virginia. So of course, we had to make our Jefferson sandwich stand out just as much as UVA by naming it after Thomas Jefferson. Why is this important? Well, Jefferson founded UVA in 1819, and he has a lot of happy Hoos in his corner from doing so.

This sandwich features maple turkey, cheddar, lettuce, cranberry relish (mind-boggling good), and herb mayonnaise on our delicious French bread. It’s a sandwich so good, even Thomas Jefferson would eat it. We like to think so, anyway.

Ednam

Β

The Ednam area is another location just minutes from our Bellair Market. Nestled in the Ivy area, Ednam holds the keys to Boar’s Head Resort-a homey, quaint, and quiet resort that gives visitors a taste of C’ville. More importantly, Boar’s Head houses our top-selling meats. Naming a top seller, The Ednam, feels like having a little piece of home on your sammy.

This signature sandwich is only slightly different from the notorious Jefferson, featuring maple turkey, bacon, Havarti, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and herb mayonnaise, on French bread. We’re getting hungry just writing this.

Birdwood

Β

This Charlottesville golf course is closest to our Bellair Market. Featuring a newly renovated course, an indoor & outdoor grill, and the blue & orange (Go, Hoos), sunsets that we live for. Sitting almost right between Farmington and Birdwood, Bellair Market fuels the golfers of Charlottesville.

The Birdwood features cracked pepper turkey, pepper jack cheese, avocado, banana peppers, lettuce, onion, and herb mayonnaise on French bread. Ok, yum. We’re into all that this sandwich has going on. Next time you’re swingin’ your clubs, be sure to grab a Birdwood to fuel up.

Montpelier

Β

If you’re a C’ville local, then you know Montpelier is THE field trip spot for every elementary and middle schooler. Home to President James Madison, Montpelier was the plantation house of the Madison family. Today, the highly frequented tourist spot, memorializes the Enslaved Community and houses American history of one of the Founding Fathers.

The Markets’ Montpelier features roast beef, lettuce, tomato, and horseradish mayonnaise on French bread, incorporating the kick it needs to stand out. Roast beef and horseradish mayonnaise? That’s all we needed to hear.
