The Markets of Tiger Fuel Company partnered with local non-profit, Albemarle Housing Improvement Program to serve up a new sandwich, The AHIP Special, at its gourmet-to-go convenience stores over the last three months. $1 of each sandwich purchased was donated to AHIP to keep local families in need safe, warm and dry in their homes. President Gordon Sutton and Retail Director Maurice Lamarche presented a $1,000 check to AHIP’s Director of Development, Ashley Patel and Director of Programs, Cory Demchak on Thursday, October 8th at The Market at Preston.
“Many in our community are dealing with inadequate heating and cooling during this challenging time and we feel it is important to do our part to give back,” said President Gordon Sutton. “It also feels great to get our customers involved in supporting this meaningful organization that does so much for our neighbors in need,” added Sutton.
In 2020, Tiger committed $10,000 in labor, tank sets and other services towards AHIP repair projects and supported the Housing Hero-level of AHIP’s annual Safe at Home efforts. The local fuel company also invested $10,000 in 2019, helping five AHIP client families with heating deficiencies and four families with critical home repair projects.
“We’ve identified tangible ways to support these critical repair projects on the fuel side of our company. It is awesome to see how we can think creatively, engage our customers and give back in a meaningful way at our convenience stores,” said Sutton.
AHIP receives 10 – 15 calls each week from local families in need of emergency home repairs, larger rehabilitations, and energy retrofits. Last year, AHIP and its supporters helped 303 people in 134 homes with 264 critical repairs and energy upgrades.
